001 - jreimer's album!

James (jreimer) is a researcher from Japan specializing in zoanthids/zooxanthellae. He has been so kind as to share some of his pictures with ZoaID.com and you!

jreimer has a PhD (2004) and MSc (2001) in Biology (Developmental Biology) from Kagoshima University in Japan, and a BSc from UBC (1995) in Ecology. His Masters focused on Symbiodinium conditions in Zoanthus spp. in the lab, and for his PhD he started looking into the phylogeny of both Zoanthus spp. and Symbiodinium using molecular techniques. He is now (until Aug.22nd 2006) a post-doc at JAMSTEC researching zoanthid diversity and phylogeny, as well as Symbiodinium in shallow water species, basically trying to use DNA to bring zoanthid taxonomy up-to-date. Starting September of 2006, he will be at the Kuroshio Biological Lab in Kochi, Japan, on his second post-doc, doing more of the same with a lot of diving too! He will still be a guest researcher at JAMSTEC as well, allowing him to continue utilizing their lab.
